Although living in student dorms for four years was all kinds of fun (beer, pizza, 24/7 pool hangs – yes our dorms had pools), I was very excited when I graduated and moved into an apartment in the city. Getting to have my own space, big windows and shopping malls next door meant I was finally in my element. Lighting a candle, putting on some music, making my morning coffee and then staring out my window for 45 minutes as I try to wake myself up are all things that I really, really love.
So far in my life I have always been working for someone else, but for these past two months I have kind of been doing my own thing. I’m not quite ready to tell you what I’ve been working on yet (although some of you may have seen a bit of it on my “apieceofelise” snapchat), but I have been spending a lot of time doing things from home. When I work at home, I usually do so wearing pyjamas. In fact, I just came back from a mid day coffee run wearing these silk ones.
It can be tricky to stay motivated when you have no one to answer to but yourself and somedays I definitely lose to Homeland (the series), but we can’t take life seriously all the time, right? Either way, it is definitely easier to keep going when you’re doing something you’re passionate about. What I am working on right now is something that I really love, so I am sure you can guess that yes, it is fashion related. I am looking forward to sharing it with you all really soon!
When it comes to anything work related, I am a sucker for kawaii/cute, as well as for writing things down. People are always a little thrown off when I mention writing. I guess that as a blogger they picture me hanging out with my iPhone, iPad and laptop all the time, but really, my day planner and notepads are the things I appreciate most.
It’s not even that I have nice writing – half the time my notepads look like crap. I think it’s more about the fact that we spend so much time staring at screens, that a cute little piece of stationary suddenly seems that much more appealing. Not to mention a handwritten note seems that much more thought out than a text message or email.
Aside from my day planner which is the only reason I remember to do anything, I also keep to-do lists, pages and pages of ideas and inspiration, as well as a notepad next to my bed where I write down all those thoughts that might be keeping me up at night.
I think it’s very important to get some of the stuff that inside our heads out and what better way to do it than with some fashionable stationary? My current fave and ones featured in this post are from Design Love Co., which is a Vancouver based company founded by a woman who inspires me to pursue what I love and to strive to make it my job.
If you’re into writing things down and/or your a Vancouver local who wants to support something special, use code “APOE20” upon checkout for 20% off your purchase at Design Love Co (valid until this Sunday, June 7th).
P.S. I hope you all like the new apieceofelise.com. I wanted something a little more grown up and a little easier to read. Feedback is appreciated and please let me know if you have any problems. I am a little bit technology impaired, to be honest this website wasn’t even supposed to be launched yet (fail), so I hope all is actually working properly.
