So how do we feel about my Youtube debut? It’s a bit ridiculous, but I am just way too excited to have finally created the perfect pajama set. In case you missed it, I have been working on this project for about six months now. I’ve never tried to make any article of clothing, yet alone an entire company of it in my life, so the process of getting to this point has been a very long time coming. I can’t explain how many failed samples I made, in which something just wasn’t quite right, so I was very happy when the perfect pajama was finally created. If you follow me on Snapchat (apieceofelise), you probably saw the original, unplanned happy dance that occurred.
The collection will be launching in about a month and this post will mark my first time officially talking about it. Although I am so thrilled to finally be sharing it with you, I am also overwhelmed and nervous. The É L I S E collection is my baby and what if I don’t do it justice? This inner battle is something I’ve been struggling with a lot, but I just try to remind myself that this fear simply means that I care; because this is my dream, it is very, very close to heart.
For this reason, I have been putting off writing this post for the past few days simply because I didn’t know what to say. I have had this image of a brand in my head for years and now I have to not only explain it, but to create it and that’s scary. Although this may sound weird coming from a blogger, but vocalizing isn’t really my strong point, so I have really been struggling with how to give words to the innate idea that is É L I S E.
Instead of trying to give you the whole big picture in just one post, I am going to share bits of the brand over time, up until the official website launch in about a month. Today’s piece of the project is this little video.
The idea of not taking fashion too seriously may seem like an obvious one, but for some reason there is a never ending stream of very serious fashion in the industry. By looking at almost every editorial in any magazine, there are never any smiles. I’m not sure why this is, but it’s something I wanted to move away from. At the end of the day, we choose fashion to express ourselves and to add an extra bit of special to each and every day, so why not create a brand that exudes the notion of happy. With É L I S E, I am going to try to make serious fashion fun.
The idea of pajama dressing was pioneered by Coco Chanel who was the first woman to venture outdoors in sleepwear. At the time, these sleepwear sets were developed only for men, given that women were still expected to wear nightgowns, so this made her extra cool. Is it OK for me to refer to Coco as cool?
By taking that perennial appeal of silk and sleep, combining it with the age old notion of pajama dressing and adding in an aspect of carefree nonchalance, É L I S E will be something that every woman needs, but probably hasn’t seen before: the ideal level of luxury alongside a bomb-ass attitude. Get ready to bring on the cool, my friends.
The full lookbook will be launching soon, so get ready to pop some champagne and spend all day in your sleepwear, because that’s what The u n b r i d l e d Collection is all about.
