This coming Thursday, June 1st is the 19th inception of The Power Ball, a fundraising event that raises vital funds for the Power Plant, Canada’s leading non-collecting, contemporary visual art gallery. In 1980 this gallery moved to its current location on the Toronto waterfront, inside a decommissioned coal power plant, and has since become not only a visual landmark of the city, but a cultural one too. With many programs providing education to children and youth, as well as investing in contemporary visual artists, the Power Plant has become an institution in Toronto.

I am so excited to be able to attend this annual Gala; visual arts, fashion, an incredible venue, and a charitable cause? What’s not to love! This year the theme of the event is Stereo Vision: The portal where hidden words and alternate realities converge and collide, and are made visible to us in our earthly dimension. I mean, I kind of get it, but I could also be waaaay off in my interpretation. Alternate realities obviously put me in mind of the future, but converging and colliding realities are very prevalent in today’s world too. For some reason I am channelling something along the lines of geometric Issey Miyake textures and primary colours, alongside a metallic and futuristic element. Trippy, right? How am I going to put this into an outfit? To be honest, The Power Ball is two days away and I’m still working on it in typical Elise fashion.

To help with the “getting ready” process, I’ve gone to through the dimensions (lol) of Pinterest to come up with a few mood boards to help us get inspired for the party. After all, I’ve been told it’s the party of the year, so I want to be looking my best (or craziest). I’ve made an appointment with Sassoon Toronto, as always, for some epic and sparkly hair. I’ve got my good friend and stylist, Mason Schlueter, on the hunt for an outfit.

All in all, I am so excited for the party and can’t wait to share it all with you on my Instagram Story (@APOElise). If you feel like joining in the fun, you can still get your own tickets for the event here. I hope to see some of you at this year’s edition of The Power Ball! Be sure to say hey!
