It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with silk. I created a whole pajama brand made exclusively from the fabric! In addition to ÉLISE, my wardrobe is also almost entirely silk – it’s just so beautiful, breathable and drapes like nothing else out there. I’m addicted. The only downside to the fabric is that it creases really easily. Given that it’s pretty much all I wear, you can probably imagine how much time I spend steaming it. Add in the various ÉLISE pop-up shops and private events around the city and sometimes I find myself steaming for almost four hours straight to make sure each set is looking perfect on the rack. Yup, I’m the steam queen!

When the opportunity arose to partner with Rowenta to try one of their steam appliances, I immediately geeked out in excitement. My mum always talked about how great Rowenta products were when I was growing up! Naturally, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on their Compact Steam Station because it’s supposed to be one of the best in the business. To top it off, it’s the exact steamer that my manufacturer uses and they’ve been working with silk for a really, really long time, so if it’s good enough for them then it must be great!

To begin, I was pleasantly surprised with just how small the Compact Steam Station is. It’s significantly smaller than most stand-up steamers I’ve seen, so it’s perfect for small spaces such as my Toronto condo. Having said that, the water tank is still 1.2 litres, so you aren’t stuck filling it every five minutes like you are with portable steaming devices.

One thing that impressed me the most is that the iron actually gives off pressurized steam. Yup, instead of simply “releasing” steam like stand up steamers, it shoots out of the iron with force. To top it off, there are four hundred holes releasing the pressurized steam. This means it works WAY better than any other steamer I’ve used (and I’ve used a lot). I kid you not, steam time is cut into a quarter. I know I’m raving about this product, but I’ve never seen anything like it! Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I found the burst mode and realized that it could give off even MORE steam if I needed it to. Yup, even the strongest crease in the thickest wool coat can be eradicated with this baby. It’s insane!!!

There are two ways you can use the Compact Steam Station. The first way is with vertical steam like a traditional steamer. I steam pretty much everything I wear this way before I put it on. I also steam all pajama sets on their hangers before being displayed. It is the quickest and easiest way to remove wrinkles from items.

The second way to use the Compact Steam Station is like a traditional iron, but with the addition of horizontal steam. This is perfect for creating intentional creases, or removing stubborn and unwanted ones that need a little extra heat. For me, a big game changer with this appliance is having the ability to both steam and press my pajamas at the same time. I can fold and perfectly press them before shipping to make sure that they arrive with the customer looking absolutely perfect. The horizontal iron function also means my collars are looking extra crisp whenever I leave the apartment!

It’s true, I am officially obsessed. I had high expectations for this product, but I was still blown away with the unexpected surprise of pressurized steam. Best. Thing. Ever.

Finally, the Compact Steam Station is small enough to fit in my duffel bag and come along with me to ÉLISE pop-up shops, so my pajamas are going to be looking better than ever on display. Yay! The Rowenta Compact Steam Station is available at retailers across Canada.

Many thanks to Rowenta for partnering on this post. All opinions are my own.
